Hi! I’m Jen
I’m a self-taught artist based in Phoenix, I was raised all over the world (courtesy of the U.S. Air Force), but the southwest is my home base. In my family of musicians, artists, and writers, passion for the arts came standard issue and I pursued a career as a singer and choir director for seven years.
But like so many others, the crunch of the global pandemic and resulting pressure on mothers put my professional pursuits on hold. Amidst the challenges of being a “lock-down” mom, I quickly found that having a creative outlet and an identity outside of my kids was not optional. As an experiment I took up painting, learning and sharing online as with all things during prolonged social distancing. My study quickly gained its own momentum, and a growing focus on modern women and the many roles and identities they balance.
I love painting with water—it’s organic, unwieldily, free; maybe even a bit naughty at times.
The flow of water and paint allows for powerful expression of abstract feelings and mood. Both water and women move in the world with minds of their own, which is why I love to feature both in my painting and come back to it time and again.
